MACHINE OPERATOR JOB DESCRIPTION

Salary: $20/hr.+ (based on experience)

JOB SUMMARY:

We are looking for a skilled and detail-oriented Bindery Machine Operator to set up,

operate, and maintain bindery machines in a fast-paced production environment. The ideal

candidate will ensure that products are accurately and efficiently produced according to job

specifications while upholding quality and safety standards.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND JOB DUTIES:

Perform work as assigned by the Production Supervisor and Division Manager, including:

  • Operate bindery equipment with skilled precision and maximum run time.
  • Efficient and safe setup, operation, and maintenance of bindery equipment.
  • Adjust machine settings for speed, pressure, and alignment.
  • Read, review, and understand the job ticket, layout sheet, proofs, artwork, and customer

specifications before beginning the scheduled job.

  • Determine job specifications to determine machine settings, material requirements, and

production parameters.

  • Perform quality checks throughout the run to ensure accuracy and consistency of the

finished product.

  • Maintain the highest production/efficiency levels throughout all runs.
  • Report any questions or problems to the supervisor.
  • Complete production paperwork, log downtime, and track materials usage.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Proficiency in setting up and operating bindery machines (e.g., Kluge, Kolbus, Muller,

Bobst, Heidelberg, Sarolglia, or similar) for production runs.

  • A results-driven mindset focused on achieving the best performance and quality.
  • The ability to troubleshoot and think creatively when faced with challenges.
  • Must have proven proficiency in how to use a ruler and be able to align the ruler

correctly, measure lengths and distances accurately, and mark or verify dimensions as

specified in work instructions, blueprints, or production specifications.

  • Experience with performing preventative maintenance on machinery.
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong knowledge of health and safety regulations.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and physically demanding environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Team spirit, positivity, and a proactive approach. Bring energy and collaboration to

every shift.

  • Forklift certification (preferred).

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 1–3 years of experience operating machinery in a manufacturing, print, or

packaging environment.

  • Strong math and ruler utilization abilities.
  • Mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot and make minor machine

adjustments.

  • Familiarity with quality control standards and production workflows.
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and interpret work orders, drawings, and job tickets.
  • Experience with performing maintenance on machinery.
  • On-the-job training or vocational certification in machine operation or industrial

technology is a plus.

  • Able to take direction from leadership.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The employee should possess the ability to:

  • Able to work 5 consecutive shifts at 8+ hours per shift while mostly on your feet.
  • Ability to stand, walk, reach, push, and pull regularly during your shift.
  • Comfortable with lifting to 25 pounds frequently, and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • The role also requires bending, squatting, crouching, and working in a fast-paced

environment.

  • Must have close vision, distance vision, depth perception, color vision, and the ability

to adjust focus.

  • Able to work overtime should the workload demand it.
  • Extensive walking, lifting & carrying heavy-weight materials (up to 50 lbs.).
  • Fast-paced environment with strict deadlines and quality standards.
  • Ability to move or traverse the facilities.
  • Ability to work around dust, chemicals, and other substances, and in various

environmental conditions.

  • Wear all the required personal protective equipment.
